A Message from Your Interim President, Donna Logan
As many of you know, Kimberly Juda-Souder stepped down as President in May to devote more time to little Lee Anthony (cutest grandbaby in the world! Yes, my first!) and to her ongoing teaching responsibilities at Spitzer Art Center. She has attracted several new students and the word is getting out that we offer quality art instruction at an affordable price!
I was happy to be able to pitch in as interim President and keep things going in the positive direction initiated by Kim. This would not be possible without the support of every one of our members and a wonderful volunteer Board that has a ceaseless supply of great ideas and willing hands to bring them to reality! Our goal this year is become a “full orbed” community Art Center!
Our spring member show in the front galleries was one of our best. As it comes to a close, we are preparing for our next show featuring two local artists. Check this site for dates and show your support by attending the reception. Sarah Lock is our Exhibitions chair so feel free to send her any ideas or suggestions for future shows and exhibits. (sslock@comcast.net)
Six of our seven studios are rented by artists who are busily engaged in artistic pursuits! We are in the process of planning open studio days so that anyone who wishes may spend time observing and talking with our studio artists. Don’t miss these. Stay in touch with us through this site and the local advertising media.
Open hours for Spitzer Art Center Galleries will soon be announced. If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact Melissa Albrecht, the studio artist coordinating this effort. (mfitzgera6@radford.edu)
The CSA Board is also working on opening the Spitzer Art Center one Saturday or Sunday a month for members to come and use the space to pursue artistic projects. This would be a time to socialize with other members and be encouraged. Check this site for dates.
One last exciting project we are pursuing is a possible grant-- funded opportunity for underprivileged children to participate in the creation of a mosaic mural on the functional but somewhat unsightly wall in front of the Spitzer Art Center. We are pursuing the possibilities of a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Harrisonburg.
There are many opportunities for you to become involved at the Spitzer Art Center.
Our committees still need members. If interested in serving on a committee, contact me and I will hook you up with the chairman of that committee. Existing committees include: Hospitality, Education and Programs. Exhibitions, Public Relations/Marketing, Fund Raising and Grants, Membership, and Building and Grounds.
If you’re interested in teaching a class at Spitzer Art Center—private or group, contact Jewel Hertzler (jhertzler@rockingham.k12.va.us)
If interested in taking a class, check this web site for upcoming classes and get your registration in before it fills up! And tell others about it!
If interested in being a featured artist in a show or exhibition, contact Sarah Lock sslock@comcast.net
We welcome every contribution you can make to our Community Art Center! Thank you for your support and let me know how we can serve you and our community better!
